It is a personal and professional privilege to accept the role as President of District 8 RTOERO London Middlesex. I want to begin to acknowledge the leadership and servitude provided by Steve Harvey last years president and to our outgoing District Executive Board members, Joe Murray, Past President, Mark Baines, 2nd Vice President, and Al Marentette, Treasurer.  Thank you for your years of service and for all that each of you have personally contributed in your roles to this organization.

I am also very grateful to have such an amazing District Core Executive elected, appointed and/or acclaimed to volunteer along-side me for 2024-25. They are:

  • 1st Vice President- Scott Armstrong
  • 2nd Vice President- Sue Bruyns

In advance, my heartfelt gratitude goes out to the chairs, co-chairs, and committee members who encourage other members to participate fully and actively in all the benefits this organization offers, not previously mentioned above.

We are also so fortunate to have many District 8 recreational activities organized for our members to participate in, that currently includes:

  • Bingo Club- Joy Antoniuk
  • Book Club- Terri Lyons
  • Dinner Club- Peggy Vere
  • Luncheon Club- Pamela Stewart
  • Theatre Club- Mary Roes, Jan Goodwill

  • Magic Yarn Club- Penny Wearne, Sue Beringer.

We are always looking for new recreational activities to make available to the membership, so if you are interested in operating an activity club, please reach out, as we are happy to expand our offerings based on member’s interests. Your first point of contact is: Joe Boutross- Member at Large/ District 8 Activity Convenor. I deeply appreciate every member of our volunteer organization and recognize that the success of our district both past, present, and future would not be possible without your commitment and contributions.

As I reflect on the past year, we should all be proud of our District’s successes particularly for providing more opportunities for member engagement. We have promoted existing and introduced new activity clubs, offered legacy social events like the Fall and Poinsettia Luncheon, and the Spring Luncheon and AGM, and expanded our group excursions and travel opportunities to such places as Frankenmuth, One-of-a-Kind Craft Show, and the Toronto Distillery District. In the 2024-25 year, we will attempt to strengthen our impact and enhance services and local district engagement opportunities to over 3,000 members. Thank you to all our members for your continued participation and incredible support of this education retiree community.

I would also like to show our appreciation to the Board of Directors and corporate office staff of RTOERO for their tireless work in supporting District 8 through their human and resource support they provide every day.  For all of us, they are a phone call away at 1-800-361-9888.

We at District 8 welcome all new members who are still working and retirees from the broader education community to join this amazing organization. Make RTOERO part of your retirement plan. I look forward to the year ahead and what that will entail for our District and to this national organization, as I proudly serve as your President.

Sincerely,

Joy
